Things to do in November in Chicago

Updated: Dec 21, 2023

It's getting colder here in Chicago but that doesn't stop us from enjoying all this city has to offer! Here are my top things to do in November in Chicago

Zoo lights at lincoln park zoo

Zoo Lights at Lincoln Park Zoo

ZooLights is open every day from Friday, November 17 through January 7, 2024. Tickets are required and they have special event nights such as Adult Night Out December 14th and a Tribute to Charlie Brown Christmas December 10th

Ice Skating at Maggie Daley Skating Ribbon

The skating ribbon is a one-of-a-kind skating experience in downtown Chicago at Maggie Daley Park. Instead of an ice rink, enjoy skating on a quarter-mile stretch of ice, surrounded by trees and other natural aspects, along with the incredible city skyline in view.  open from November 17th until March 10th. Bring your own skates and skate free Monday-Thursday! additional prices are listed HERE

Lightscapes at the Botanic Gardens

"Embrace the season’s beauty and make spirits bright at Lightscape, returning to transform new parts of the Garden—including Evening Island—into dazzling landscapes. From radiant first-time installations to beloved classics like the Winter Cathedral, this year’s reimagined trail takes our fifth annual holiday celebration to the next level. Bring your nearest and dearest, enjoy festive food and drink, and immerse yourself in a world of music, color, and lights" Tickets are $34 for adults and $17 for kids ( children under 3 are free) plus discounts for members

Tree Lighting Ceremony at Millennium Park

Enjoy the 110th annual tree lighting ceremony in Millennium Park. Chicago’s official 45-foot Colorado Blue Spruce Christmas tree will shine brightly near the intersection of Michigan Ave. and Washington St. from November 17 through January 7. Tree lighting preshow begins at 5 pm and the tree will be lit at 6:25 pm. Millennium park open at 11am so get there early to grab a good spot!

Thanksgiving Day Parade

Brave the crowds to watch helium baloons fill the sky and multiple performers dazzle the streets. The parade is free to watch and begins at 8 am. The nicer the weather the more likely it is to be packed so plan accordingly! There is a VIP section on State Street between Ida B. Wells (Congress) and Washington but is first come first serve. Grab a spot to see our inflatables do the "limbo” underneath the “L” by the Harold Washington Library at (State and Washington)

Hot Chocolate 5k

The Sweetest Run! This is one of my favorite 5ks in Chicago. Mostly because you get desert at the end. The 5k is November 5th this year and starts around 7:30 am. I don't even run, I walk and it's a beautiful walk in the heart of downtown. When you pick up your race packet, they have a mini expo with carious vendors and sponsors so you can treat yourself to some chocolate beforehand! The swag bag is pretty nice too!

Hopefully this helped you find something to do in Chicago this November!

Until next time!

xoxo

Sam
